Weddings, vacations, & back again...

I was a terrible blogger this past week and forgot to leave an out of office note telling all y'all that I was going to be traveling to a foreign country.  With no phone or internet access.  I thought I would die from the disconnected-ness of it all, but instead, I learned to scuba dive.  And brush up on my rusty spanish.  And learned to drive a scooter in the crazy, no-holds-barred streets of Mexico.  It was an amazing time and while I'm glad to be back, sleeping in my own bed and drinking water from the tap, there are so many things that I miss about it.  I'll be sure to get photos up soon.

I have lots of events to blog and will be burning the midnight oil to get caught up soon.  In addition to some fun sessions, I shot Mitch & Jeannene's wedding a week ago and have 2 weddings this weekend.  Whew!

In my first glance through Mitch & Jeannene's wedding photos, I couldn't help but post this one.  Instant fave!

Absence makes the heart grow fonder... right?

It's been awhile... I'm sorry.  Let me make it up to you and show you all the wonderful photographs I've been taking over the past couple weeks.  Oops - strike that.  I can't do that because I have no photographs to show you.  Unless we meet for coffee.  And then I will dump the whole pile of them in your lap. 

You see, a couple months ago I fell in love with Lester.  He knew I wanted to get back into film - wanted to re-connect with the medium that I fell in love with in the very beginning before the convenience of digital took over.  He knew I was vulnerable.  And so in the past few weeks, I have spent all my money on Polaroid film.  I've played with light, made adjustments and adaptations to my shooting style and shot some unbelievably beautiful stuff.  I am so in love... it's incredible that these little pictures fill me with such satisfaction.  But when the color and the grain and the square all come together... well, it's like magic.  And I would show you all of my favorites, I really would, if only I had a scanner. 

So, until I get my scanner (soon!  I promise!  In the meantime, enjoy these.) I'll make it up to you another way and extend the session special until July 15th.  This time, there are no rules.  You pick where and when, and I'll bring the camera.  Session fee is only $125.00.  (*Prints not included.*)  Let's go play in the summer-y San Diego sun.

Something Special to Welcome Summer...

You may notice that this post is lacking a photo.  Lots of words, but no pretty pictures.  So sad.  And why would I not post a photo with this post?  For the simple reason that I just don't have one with a Jacaranda tree (you know those gorgeous purple trees that are all over San Diego right now?  They are awesome...).

So, in order to remedy this small problem and to celebrate the beginning of summer and all things Beach-y, Sunshine-y, Vacation-y, and well, Summer-y, I am offering sessions for the next two weeks for only $125.  What do you get for $125 bucks?  A 1 hour session with me anywhere in San Diego that has Jacaranda trees, professional processing of 20-30 of the best images from your session, an on-line gallery, and a free 8x10 print.  Whew!

Rules:

Your session must take place anytime before June 20, 2008.
The $125 session fee is due at the time of your session. 
All other prints and hi-res digital files (besides the 8x10) will be offered for sale, but are not included in the session fee.

The Teenage Rite of Passage... PROM!

A few weeks ago, my boyfriend's daughter, Marisa, let me in on a little plan.  With her senior year coming to a close, prom was in sight and she had arranged a session for me to take pre-party photos for her group of friends before they headed out to the gala.  (I have to admit, this kid is good... I should probably make her my marketing manager.) 

In the days leading up to the big day, I wasn't quite sure what to expect.  She did all the arranging and told me where to show up.  I got to the designated location a bit early, scouted out potential spots for light and minimal background distraction and waited for the kids to arrive.  Unfortunately, it was a popular location for prom photos and parents and kids alike edged me out of my first-choice spot.  Fortunately for me, I found an even better location and as our kids trickled in, (the girls tell me it takes TIME to look that good!) I started snapping.

I had such a fun time with this session.  Not only were the girls stunning and their dates handsome, but they were so nice and funny as heck.  They were comfortable in front of the camera, confident in themselves, and assured of the fact that not only was the evening going to be fantastic, but that their bright futures are in front of them, ready for the taking. 

Here are a few of my favorites... I had so much fun with all the different colored gowns!

Because there were so many parents photographing their kids and such a limited amount of time, I wasn't able to photograph all of the couples and individuals after the group shots.  (Seriously, I think there was one camera to every two kids!)  And I think I spend the most time with Marisa and her date because they showed up before everyone else... (See?  I told you she was good!)

This last shot cracks me up every time I look at it!  It was a bit breezy and I was standing on top of a table with the lens right in their faces.  He was surprised that the lens was so close and made a comment to that effect.  This is the result:

My weekend spilled over into this week...

Sweet Kicks... spied at San Diego's Rock & Roll Marathon

Last weekend was filled with music, a marathon, too much sunshine, and prom!  Whew!  I'm still recovering from it all (and by recovering, I mean I am both proofing photos like a mad-woman and rubbing aloe on my sunburned shoulders.  Simultaneously.).

Things have been crazy 'round here and I was almost looking forward to the workweek because it meant things would return to normal. 

So, this is me checking in and saying that it won't be long before I get to show you lots and lots of pretty pictures.  Hope your week is going well!
